Conceived as a utopian conference, this inaugural gathering, co-organised with Culturgest, uses art as a critical catalyst to reflect on the present and the possible futures of European cultural institutions, fostering strategic imagination and long-term cooperation. Taking La Distance by Tiago Rodrigues as its point of departure, the event proposes a collective exercise in anticipation, imagining a world shaped by precarity, climate change and the prospect of exile to Mars, shifting institutional thinking away from short-term imperatives.

The construction of what it means “to be a man” and the pressure to conform to that ideal are revisited in an intimate way. Between an intimate encounter and the magic of the stage there is a lot, but what is the shortest distance between these two realms? Pai para Jantar is a game with the audience that seeks to unpack masculinity in a poetic and humorous way.

The European project DRIFT – Dance and Research In the Future Time is a programme dedicated to research, support and artistic development for mid-career choreographic and interdisciplinary artists. It is led by an international consortium of festivals and cultural institutions, of which Materiais Diversos is a partner.

FUTURΛ is an invitation to reinvent curatorial practices: a peer-to-peer space for imagining possible futures with courage, care, and an openness to what has yet to be named. A seminar for programmers, artists and cultural practitioners, FUTURΛ offers a space for listening, critical exchange and experimentation, responding to the urgent need to rethink curatorial practice today. From an intersectional feminist perspective, it brings together professionals from the performing arts in a gathering dedicated to curating as an artistic, political and social practice.

At the 2026 edition of the BONS SONS festival, taking place from 6 to 9 August, in Cem Soldos, Materiais Diversos will present Conto Preto by Nala Revlon and Fazer Ideia by João Grilo and Inês Campos.

Boba da Corte (2027) is a project born from the desire to look at a generation of children of working-class parents who have achieved social mobility into the middle class and allowed themselves the luxury of dreaming. The narrative is simple: a person throws a birthday party with their new friends from the elite but is confronted with a message from a friend who got lost on the way and accidentally ended up in the street where the protagonist was born — a street in a social housing neighbourhood. In addition, she celebrates her 35th birthday with intensity, having surpassed the life expectancy of trans people in her country of origin. At the same time, she is confronted with the age at which her mother died, at 36 years old.

Filipe Pereira presents Arranjo Floral, a lecture-performance about an artist born in Fátima, set amid massive processions, floral arrangements, and religious souvenir shops. A journey that takes us through a biography spanning faith and atheism, virginity and sexual awakening, the art of flowers and the art of dance—and back again. Accompanied by flowers, choreography, and stories, Filipe leaves us pondering how much of our past is present in everything we do, how much of our destiny is predetermined, and how much lies in our own hands.
