BANANADA: OPERANTÍPODA (Part I) — Marcelo Evelin
Marcelo Evelin will be in residence in Caen and Faro in April, and will hold an open rehearsal on the 17th at 7pm in Caen.
The Materiais Diversos Festival promotes the meeting of different audiences and imaginaries around the arts (dance, theatre, music and performance) with thought, questioning actuality and fostering cultural participation as a condition for citizenship. Born in Minde, in 2009, it spread to Alcanena and Cartaxo (in 2013) and became one of the most representative projects for programming outside the large centres in Portugal, attempting to think and act from the places it originates. It had been occurring annually until 2017 and became a biannual event starting with its 10th edition in 2019.
From the 5th to the 15th of October 2023, the Festival Materiais Diversos will be in Alcanena and Minde with a program of dance, theater and music shows, installations and conversations. Slowing down and making people, places and processes visible are the mottos of the 12th edition of the festival.
DENTES DE LEÃO is a project in the field of participatory arts that invests in the young population of Sardoal, Évora and Lisbon, and in young artists from the districts of Santarém and Évora and Iceland. It promotes the articulation of cultural, heritage and human resources of these territories, through collaborative, formative and reflective creative processes, with a view to their valorization and sustainability.
The Dandelions project sets up a:
— collaborative space for creation between young people and artists, through the parallel development of weekly Youth Encounters and ten Artist Residencies;
— a training space for artists and other cultural agents through three Art Laboratories and a Participatory Arts Course;
—a programming space through presentations in the format of Atelier Aberto (Évora) and a Cycle of Participatory Arts (Sardoal);
— and a reflective space, in collaboration with academia, which includes the creation of a specific monitoring and evaluation methodology, a Closing Forum (Lisbon) and a publication.
The Youth Encounters take place weekly between January 2022 and March 2023, and also have monthly meetings with selected artists, some of them added to the opening moments of the Artist Residencies. The three groups also meet each other five times throughout the project.
The monitoring and evaluation process, like the entire project, is designed in a participatory logic between all the stakeholders, with the coordination of the researchers involved.
—January 22 and 23, 2022: meeting at the Opening Forum of all the people involved in the project (in Évora and Sardoal);
—from January 2022 to March 2023: artists, young people and the Dentes de Leão team work in meetings, artistic residencies, laboratories, creations and presentation of artistic projects;
— end of May 2022: the three groups meet (in Lisbon) and choose the artistic projects to develop in Évora and Sardoal;
—October 2022: 5 artistic projects (4 Portuguese and 1 Icelandic) are presented in the places where they were created and the three groups of young people meet again;
— January 2023: the 5 artistic projects are presented at Culturgest, accompanied by the three groups of young people, along with a moment of sharing reflections and conclusions.
