BANANADA: OPERANTÍPODA (Part I) — Marcelo Evelin
Marcelo Evelin will be in residence in Caen and Faro in April, and will hold an open rehearsal on the 17th at 7pm in Caen.
The Materiais Diversos Festival promotes the meeting of different audiences and imaginaries around the arts (dance, theatre, music and performance) with thought, questioning actuality and fostering cultural participation as a condition for citizenship. Born in Minde, in 2009, it spread to Alcanena and Cartaxo (in 2013) and became one of the most representative projects for programming outside the large centres in Portugal, attempting to think and act from the places it originates. It had been occurring annually until 2017 and became a biannual event starting with its 10th edition in 2019.
From the 5th to the 15th of October 2023, the Festival Materiais Diversos will be in Alcanena and Minde with a program of dance, theater and music shows, installations and conversations. Slowing down and making people, places and processes visible are the mottos of the 12th edition of the festival.
Since 2017, Materiais Diversos has invited artists from different areas to conduct workshops and regular projects in primary and secondary schools within the groups of schools Agrupamentos de Escolas of Alcanena and Cartaxo, not only during regular school hours, but also after-school. The recognition of this project by the Agrupamento de Escolas of Alcanena gave rise to the current project – O Antropoceno das Crianças.
O Antropoceno is a recently designated geological area, the identification of which sheds new light on the presence of the human being on planet Earth. This project achieves a shared experience between children and adults, and professors and artists, which simultaneously allows for the exploration of a great current topic in an accessible manner, and contribute to a better understanding and care for the nearby ecosystem, in this case, the localities of Alcanena and Minde.
In light of the general topic, we propose: to think of the relationship between humanity and nature as a non-dichotomy; to deepen the knowledge of the local territory in geological, hydro, biological, social and economic terms; to create sensitivity to difference and diversity, connecting these to other localities, us to the other, our worlds to diverse worlds; to contribute to self-esteem, a sense of belonging and critical reflection.
2018/2019 Edition: 1 October to 15 June
From October to May, during the school year.
Weekly sessions, with two 5th year groups: EB2,3 from Minde and EB2 from Alcanena.
