Festival

The Materiais Diversos Festival promotes the meeting of different audiences and imaginaries around the arts (dance, theatre, music and performance) with thought, questioning actuality and fostering cultural participation as a condition for citizenship. Born in Minde, in 2009, it spread to Alcanena and Cartaxo (in 2013) and became one of the most representative projects for programming outside the large centres in Portugal, attempting to think and act from the places it originates. It had been occurring annually until 2017 and became a biannual event starting with its 10th edition in 2019.

From the 5th to the 15th of October 2023, the Festival Materiais Diversos will be in Alcanena and Minde with a program of dance, theater and music shows, installations and conversations. Slowing down and making people, places and processes visible are the mottos of the 12th edition of the festival.

Sr. João

Sr. João is a colletive founded in 2009 by Óscar Silva, Pedro Barreiro, Ricardo B. Marques and Silvana Ivaldi, which works mainly in theatre and performance. Sr. João is interested, among other things, in thinking about performative acts as poetic generators and experimentation on the constituting conventions of theatrical forms. Most of the public performances of Sr. João´s shows took place in São Paulo, Brazil, between 2010 and 2014, among which some highlights were Espectáculo Absoluto (2014), Traumatheatre (2012), Tool Box (2012), I Love SP (2011) and Primeira Valsa (2011), preceded by Porque o destino nos segue o rasto como um louco com uma navalha na mão – um espectáculo de passe (2010), which was presented in Lisbon.

Silvana Ivaldi

Acting Club is a happening which takes place as part of the project Estudo de Materiais (ou Anacronias Gerais) by the collective Sr. João.
It is a relational performance on theatrical representation. During a single session in loco, conducted by Sr. João, fictions will be created from the intimate motivations of each of the participants. After an open-call to the local community for the place where the collective´s artistic residency will take place, those selected will become co-authors of the performance, together with the elements which make up Sr. João.

In Acting Club, the four selected participant are invited to join the event on the day, hour and location specified for the concretization of the happening.
