The Materiais Diversos Festival promotes the meeting of different audiences and imaginaries around the arts (dance, theatre, music and performance) with thought, questioning actuality and fostering cultural participation as a condition for citizenship. Born in Minde, in 2009, it spread to Alcanena and Cartaxo (in 2013) and became one of the most representative projects for programming outside the large centres in Portugal, attempting to think and act from the places it originates. It had been occurring annually until 2017 and became a biannual event starting with its 10th edition in 2019.

From the 3rd to the 12th of October 2025, the Festival Materiais Diversos will be in Alcanena and Minde with a program of dance, theater and music shows, installations and conversations.

Francisca Poças

1999, Leiria – Portugal

During a sabbatical year, after studying Ceramic Design and Sculpture at the Colégio de S. Miguel, she joined the Te-Ato Theatre Group in Leiria and began training in Dance at the Associação de Dança e Desenvolvimento Social de Leiria, attending regular classes in Contemporary and Classical Dance, after which she entered the Escola Superior de Dança.

She completed her degree in Dance and moved to Wuppertal-Germany for a professional internship at the Merighy Mercy Kompanie, where she also ended up joining the team at the Tanz Station-Barmer Bahnhof residency centre.

Since then, she has been working as an independent freelancer, carrying out work in the areas of interpreting, artistic assistance, production and communication design for national and German artists/structures.

She has worked with the cultural co-operative Lavrar o Mar as an interpreter/co-interpreter on the plays RUMOR, E SE FIZÉSSEMOS TUDO OUTRA VEZ, and Bowing. She has also performed in the plays Bisonte: ReS-tage by Marco da Silva Ferreira and SoundWalk – Bewegte Orte by Thusnelda Mercy. As a creator, she has produced the video dance Casa de Barro.

Interested in artistic projects that dialogue between performative interdisciplinarity and the social/geographical atmosphere, she works on researching ‘sensitivity’ as a tool for the development of the individual and, consequently, the collective.

Projectos

Bombazine em Agosto (Corduroy in August) is an object of artistic research into the cycle Truth and/or Dare (Consequence) – a device indicated as a map-relationship for creating scenes – and the exercise of being a performer. It questions on which curves, counter-curves, crooked lines and angles can we draw tangents between unreality and reality, in the form of a documentary novel.
