Palmira
Rosa do Fontão had a son, Joaquim, from Moreira and Nelo, from Abílio da Grade. Alzira had a son, Zé, from Moreira. Maria, from Leonor, had a daughter, Inácia, daughter of Portela, and Alberto, son of Moreira. And Palmira had a son, Herculano, and a daughter, Joaquina, both sons of Moreira. Moreira had 7 children; 5 illegitimate and 2 legitimate.
For the creation of this performance we start from the memory of the story of Palmira, Anabela’s maternal grandmother. Palmira raised the two children on her own of an “incognito” father, became an independent and autonomous woman, chose to have the profession of dressmaker and refused marriage proposals that would allow her to restore “social honor”. Some of the paradigms that cross the path of women are centered in this memory, echoing multiple reverberations today. In this performance we focus on female identity in a peri-urban and rural context and, in a broader sense, also on fundamental aspects of gender and family relationships.
What perspectives do women and men have about work, motherhood, love, power? In the face of such distant social and political realities, what has changed, what remains? Are there other relationships with men in fatherhood?
We head to Minho, to the Center and the South of the country to talk with women and men about the feminine, the masculine and the family, thus establishing the dramaturgical lines with which this creation is sewn.
