BANANADA: OPERANTÍPODA (Part I) — Marcelo Evelin
Marcelo Evelin will be in residence in Caen and Faro in April, and will hold an open rehearsal on the 17th at 7pm in Caen.
The Materiais Diversos Festival promotes the meeting of different audiences and imaginaries around the arts (dance, theatre, music and performance) with thought, questioning actuality and fostering cultural participation as a condition for citizenship. Born in Minde, in 2009, it spread to Alcanena and Cartaxo (in 2013) and became one of the most representative projects for programming outside the large centres in Portugal, attempting to think and act from the places it originates. It had been occurring annually until 2017 and became a biannual event starting with its 10th edition in 2019.
From the 5th to the 15th of October 2023, the Festival Materiais Diversos will be in Alcanena and Minde with a program of dance, theater and music shows, installations and conversations. Slowing down and making people, places and processes visible are the mottos of the 12th edition of the festival.
In 2022, we will carry out O Tempo das Cherries in the form of public conversations, touring various cultural spaces in the territories where we program. These conversations will be videotaped and then shared online.
Anticipating the last of this year’s sessions, dedicated to the book by Ana Pais “Who’s afraid of emotions?”, we highlight the title “Who’s afraid…?” as a trigger for each of the sessions of O Tempo das Cerejas 2022. The various declinations of this question challenge us to debate issues that are at the same time pressing and fracturing these days, not only at a social and political level, but also from the point of view of the relationship between action and discourse. At the same time, these themes reflect several of the projects of the Materials Diversity Regular Program, from workshops with young people to the creations of artists that we support in 2022. Throughout the year, we will ask ourselves:
Who’s Afraid of Differences?, Who’s Afraid of Change?, Who’s Afraid of Collectives? and Who is afraid of emotions?

With regards to O Tempo das Cerejas, throughout this past year we established a partnership with the Communications Design course at Escola Artística António Arroio, within the scope of of FCT – Formação em Contexto de Trabalho (Work-related Training). The students specializing in Graphic Design developed editorial projects for the texts produced in 2020 for O Tempo das Cerejas. We share the work that was developed, the publications the students paged and the DYI versions, for those who wish to publish their own work at home.
