Festival

The Materiais Diversos Festival promotes the meeting of different audiences and imaginaries around the arts (dance, theatre, music and performance) with thought, questioning actuality and fostering cultural participation as a condition for citizenship. Born in Minde, in 2009, it spread to Alcanena and Cartaxo (in 2013) and became one of the most representative projects for programming outside the large centres in Portugal, attempting to think and act from the places it originates. It had been occurring annually until 2017 and became a biannual event starting with its 10th edition in 2019.

From the 3rd to the 12th of October 2025, the Festival Materiais Diversos will be in Alcanena and Minde with a program of dance, theater and music shows, installations and conversations.

With the participation of more than 300 performers of different nationalities, Batucada (2014), a “performative event”, continues in diffusion. Dança Doente/Sick Dance, his latest creation, is inspired by the universe of Tatsumi Hijikata / JP. It premiered in May 2017 at the Kunsten Festival des Arts / Belgium and toured in Europe, Brazil and Japan.
The Invention of Evilness, last piece, premiered in April 2019 at CAMPO, Teresina (Br), followed by performances at Live Arts Festival, Bologna (It), Festival Dias da Dança, Porto (Pt), Kunsten Festival des Arts, Brussels (Br), HAU, Berlin (De), Festival de Campinas (Br); Festival d’Automne à Paris (Fr), Mousonturm/Frankfurt and in 2020 at the Gropius-Bau Museum, Berlin (De).

Bananada is a physical and sonic choreographic object created for and with 24 body artists. It lies between installation and performance, continuing research by the Demolition Incorporada platform into new stage devices and other conditions of performativity. The work invites the audience into a participatory and subjective horizontal situation. It unfolds as a collective ritual and shared experience, with the body acting as an intervener and devourer, a source of actions that give meaning to a state of potentiality and a space for discarding them. The project will be developed in cumulative stages, with research phases and public presentations, until it reaches its final structure.

OPERANTÍPODA is the first moment of Bananada, which consists of a creation for 24 performers, including artists and non-artists from the local community of the city where it is presented. Bananada has as its main axis the “excavation” of a series of practices used in previous creations, starting from simple and direct exercises focused on how to be together. — Marcelo Evelin / Demolition Incorporada
