Festival

The Materiais Diversos Festival promotes the meeting of different audiences and imaginaries around the arts (dance, theatre, music and performance) with thought, questioning actuality and fostering cultural participation as a condition for citizenship. Born in Minde, in 2009, it spread to Alcanena and Cartaxo (in 2013) and became one of the most representative projects for programming outside the large centres in Portugal, attempting to think and act from the places it originates. It had been occurring annually until 2017 and became a biannual event starting with its 10th edition in 2019.

From the 5th to the 15th of October 2023, the Festival Materiais Diversos will be in Alcanena and Minde with a program of dance, theater and music shows, installations and conversations. Slowing down and making people, places and processes visible are the mottos of the 12th edition of the festival.

Caminhar para Unir Territórios

Teatro do Vestido

O Teatro do Vestido is a theatre collective founded in 2001, which has up to now directed more than 40 pieces, and various other initiatives sharing their creative methods. The company´s work is based on research and experimentation, as well as the development of an original dramaturgy, based on several departure points. It is further characterized by a strong relationship with a variety of performance spaces, in both urban and rural contexts, as well as the development of initiatives which envision the creation of a community of spectators who are attentive to and involved in the reflection on reality. The company works collaboratively, under the artistic direction of Joana Craveiro. In 2012, the Teatro do Vestido received an honourable mention from the pela APCT – Associação Portuguesa de Críticos de Teatro (Portuguese Association of Theatre Critics) for “an activity open to all forms of art, attentive to all citizens and curious about everything that happens in the world in which people live.”

Since 2012, O Teatro do Silêncio (TS) has been developing an artistic research, creation and experimental project, based on the act of walking. The premise of the project Caminhar Para Unir Territórios is to unite different areas of human knowledge simultaneously invoking the physical act of walking. Performance is the language that best frames these walks, this context, performance, understood as “happening”, something not completely planned, but rather emerging from the interactions between the public, the performers and the territory.
In 2018 and 2019, the Teatro do Silêncio continues this project, as a co-production with Materiais Diversos, creating four walks with different itineraries in the municipalities of Alcanena and Cartaxo. On the one hand, the intention is to unite the territories where Materiais Diversos develops its work, and on the other, to reveal the identities of those territories, problematizing their idiosyncrasies.
