Nothingness
Nothingness, is a project about the end and beginning again, that fragile interval between the cycle which finished and a cycle that begins, the intermediary moment where destructive and creative energies which we carry within us converge. In Nothingness, Maria Eugenia Lopes dedicates herself to this latent, inert moment, where everything is finished and nothing is yet born. This in between where despair and illusion live. Metaphorically, she associates this final and beginning again moment with the notion of “nothing”, of transition of the non-existence to existence and of existence to annihilation. In “Nothingness” Maria Eugenia Lopes addresses the fear of the void, of what is horrifying in the idea of losing everything, of losing oneself, of the obsession for freezing that which is essentially in constant transformation.
Maria Eugenia Lopez is the invited guest of Grand Studio for the annual interchange with Materiais Diversos (MD).
