Boba da Corte

(2027)

Boba da Corte is a project born from the desire to look at a generation of children of working-class parents who have achieved social mobility into the middle class and allowed themselves the luxury of dreaming. The narrative is simple: a person throws a birthday party with their new friends from the elite but is confronted with a message from a friend who got lost on the way and accidentally ended up in the street where the protagonist was born — a street in a social housing neighbourhood.

In addition, she celebrates her 35th birthday with intensity, having surpassed the life expectancy of trans people in her country of origin. At the same time, she is confronted with the age at which her mother died, at 36 years old.

“Either I die this year, or I will live forever!”

These anxieties drive a frenetic and passionate narrative: one of class differences and the constant uncertainty of belonging. With sharp humour, full commitment and the unforgiving gaze of someone drunk (at themselves and at others), Boba da Corte is both an attempt at healing and a finger in the wound — autofiction and a sociological portrait of a delirious middle class.

“It is very much self-hate, but also immense love.”

Pai para Jantar

(2023)

The construction of what it means “to be a man” and the pressure to conform to that ideal are revisited in an intimate way. Between an intimate encounter and the magic of the stage there is a lot, but what is the shortest distance between these two realms? Pai para Jantar is a game with the audience that seeks to unpack masculinity in a poetic and humorous way. The performance plays with the ways in which we negotiate words, affects and archetypes around the idea of “being a man”. This piece proposes a subjective journey towards the legacy of our fathers, which persists in our personalities and underlies many desires and failures. — Gaya de Medeiros
