In Practice — Summer School

In Practice – Summer School is an advanced training programme focused on the field of the performing arts, aimed at artists and researchers, and co-organised by Materiais Diversos and the Centre for Theatre Studies (FLUL). More than a workshop, it is a space for shared inquiry where artists, researchers, students and participants engage deeply with methodologies, questions and modes of practice, seeking to blur the boundaries between theory and practice and to sustain an ongoing dialogue between the two. The programme usually centres on a specific artistic practice, with the invited artist sharing their research while situating it within a broader discussion.

Each edition invites a pair of artists and thinkers to share their practices, creating a common field of inquiry where theory and practice meet and new forms of knowledge can emerge. We begin from the conviction that knowledge is also embodied: situated, relational and carried through experience. Not everything we know can be fully codified or transmitted through language. We are interested in what is learned through the body, through lived experience and through collective practice.

Over the course of a week in Minde and Alcanena, the School creates conditions for the collective production of knowledge, the experimentation of methodologies and the construction of new narratives about the present. It recognises artistic research as a privileged space for imagining other ways of thinking, creating and being in the world.
