Festival

The Materiais Diversos Festival promotes the meeting of different audiences and imaginaries around the arts (dance, theatre, music and performance) with thought, questioning actuality and fostering cultural participation as a condition for citizenship. Born in Minde, in 2009, it spread to Alcanena and Cartaxo (in 2013) and became one of the most representative projects for programming outside the large centres in Portugal, attempting to think and act from the places it originates. It had been occurring annually until 2017 and became a biannual event starting with its 10th edition in 2019.

From the 5th to the 15th of October 2023, the Festival Materiais Diversos will be in Alcanena and Minde with a program of dance, theater and music shows, installations and conversations. Slowing down and making people, places and processes visible are the mottos of the 12th edition of the festival.

Projectos

FUTURICIDADE is a project developed by choreographer Marta Tomé (O Corpo da Dança – cultural association – Torres Novas) in collaboration with researcher Rui Matoso (Escola Superior de Teatro e Cinema / Universidade Lusófona – CICANT), which aims to mobilize young people (students of the secondary education) enthusiasm for personal development, autonomy and responsibility in exercising full citizenship, the right to the city and emancipated participation in public life.

Based on existing investigations in the field of contemporary dance related to individual and collective movement, through an interdisciplinary methodology, a body of ideas and practices is activated, bringing them to the context of participation and emancipation of young people. In this sense, it is essential to activate as voices and the obligatory speeches of young citizens in their wide diversity, but also to promote a creative social mobilization.

The project was developed until January 2022, with biweekly meetings with a 12th grade class, from Escola Secundária de Alcanena, during curricular schedule.
