BANANADA: OPERANTÍPODA (Part I) — Marcelo Evelin
Marcelo Evelin will be in residence in Caen and Faro in April, and will hold an open rehearsal on the 17th at 7pm in Caen.
The Materiais Diversos Festival promotes the meeting of different audiences and imaginaries around the arts (dance, theatre, music and performance) with thought, questioning actuality and fostering cultural participation as a condition for citizenship. Born in Minde, in 2009, it spread to Alcanena and Cartaxo (in 2013) and became one of the most representative projects for programming outside the large centres in Portugal, attempting to think and act from the places it originates. It had been occurring annually until 2017 and became a biannual event starting with its 10th edition in 2019.
From the 5th to the 15th of October 2023, the Festival Materiais Diversos will be in Alcanena and Minde with a program of dance, theater and music shows, installations and conversations. Slowing down and making people, places and processes visible are the mottos of the 12th edition of the festival.
The project intends to put into dialogue two parallel and interdependent proposals: the first, CABRAQIMERA, a choreographic score for a skating quartet, a dance piece about states of detonation; countered by POROMECHANIC, a series of video-portraits of choreographers, which are filmed, moments after being subjected to immersion states.
Dance piece for a quartet on roller skates, which addresses a contemporaneity that is both physical and technological, where a system of spatial organization, based on speed sports, establishes a set of codes of occupation, interceptions and encounters.
The plastic and hypnotic dimension of the gesture is evidenced by a lighting system that reveals negative and positive spaces, projecting the body to an extreme otherness and opening the ground for fiction.
POROMECHANICS is a collection of video-portraits of choreographers, presented as oracles, in dialogue with a suspended sculpture of a double-headed whale, in a sleeping position.
The initiative to portray different artists, moments after being induced to states of immersion, through physical and sound activation, enhances the idea of access to their black boxes, promoting the activation of the parasympathetic nervous system and the appearance of subconscious speech.
The possibility of hallucination and hypnagogia, aims to return the oracular perspective to each body, through the manifestation of their gestures captured on camera, as “soothsayers” – those who tell the truth.
