Festival

The Materiais Diversos Festival promotes the meeting of different audiences and imaginaries around the arts (dance, theatre, music and performance) with thought, questioning actuality and fostering cultural participation as a condition for citizenship. Born in Minde, in 2009, it spread to Alcanena and Cartaxo (in 2013) and became one of the most representative projects for programming outside the large centres in Portugal, attempting to think and act from the places it originates. It had been occurring annually until 2017 and became a biannual event starting with its 10th edition in 2019.

From the 5th to the 15th of October 2023, the Festival Materiais Diversos will be in Alcanena and Minde with a program of dance, theater and music shows, installations and conversations. Slowing down and making people, places and processes visible are the mottos of the 12th edition of the festival.

D’ENÇÀ —-DESDE ENTÃO

Quim Bigas

Quim Bigas Bassart, born in Malgrat de Mar and living between Barcelona and Copenhagen. Artist working within the fields of choreography, dramaturgy, and information procedures.

Dedicated to projects that seek to unfold a sense of place through the dispositive of dance and choreography. The artistic work that Quim has been doing uses different elements or constitutions of the event to contribute and conceive encounters with a special attention around the implications of going back. Quim’s works often uses documentary procedures to unfold a choreographical possibility that opens time perspectives that are in continuous.

Often wonders on how to open modes of being through approaching the conjunction between memory, subjective experience, and absence. Furthermore, is also intrigued by the role of the body as a somatic entity that keeps holding up questions and concerns about the perspectives
of the real.

This project starts from the desire to create a movement sequence to be dance in unison by a group of people. In this work, the agreement of steps becomes a tool from where to invoke other spaces as well as a form of carrying and caring for the texture of our togetherness. To
dance together and to move with things together.

“D’ENÇÀ —– DESDE ENTÃO” is a research process led by Quim Bigas that, here, manifests as a stage piece. The scenic proposal is based on a movement sequence for five dancers lasting for about 75 minutes. The sequence, which will be in unison, will be promiscuous with styles and will traverse different states and emotions. The unison format will allow us to understand movement and dance as a possible mode to take care of various locations and textures, as well as a platform where to meet and be affected. A movement from the past and in the present that builds something towards a future that we don’t yet know. Only the encounter will tell.
